Art Affairs Department

The Art Affairs Department was set up in 1975 in the aftermath of the radical reformation of the Flemish public broadcasting network in 1974-1975. The department, at the time headed by Joz. Van Liempt, was part of the network’s cultural division, which consisted of various individual departments. When Van Liempt retired in 1982, he was succeeded by Hilda Verboven. In 1983 and 1984, under her directorship, the monthly IJsbreker programme was broadcast as an experimental talkshow presented by Jef Cornelis. After 15 years, in 1990, the art affairs department disappeared in a fusion of two departments, into a new general art department. With the 1992 restructuring, the art department was replaced by a general department for culture. [Daniël Biltereyst]
