Herman Verdin
Herman Verdin was head of the Artistic and Educational Broadcasting Department at the BRT from 1961 to 1965, when Ludo Bekkers and Annie Declerck were working as producers. Verdin was in command of a long series of programmes devoted to the plastic arts and music, including opera and ballet performances, as well as educational broadcasts. ‘I cover an area that lies between potato culture and phonetics,’ declared Verdin. In 1966, Verdin left the company, after which he was succeeded by Jerome Verhaeghe. Under the leadership of Herman Verdin, Jef Cornelis completed Het kasteel van Alden Biezen (broadcast on 5th November, 1964), Abdij van Park te Heverlee (broadcast on 25th December, 1964) and Plus d’honneur, que d’honneurs (on Westerlo Castle) (broadcast on 16th April, 1965). A classicist, Verdin left the BRT to become professor of classic languages at the Catholic University of Louvain (K.U.Leuven). [Daniël Biltereyst]
